Questions 1: What should be the long-term and short-term strategy for the preparation of JEE exam?
Answer:
Let me define long-term strategy as strategy for more than one year of preparation for JEE. In this planning, a student must have a clear methodology or learning, practicing, testing and revising. Following are brief details of all four:
1) Learning: Mode of learning, be it online or offline, should be fixed and religiously followed. Learning includes doubt solving. Students should not sleep with their doubts. They should clear it as soon as possible. Students should be extrovert with their teachers about their doubts.
2) Practicing: Students should segregate their study material in two parts; primary and secondary sources. Primary source should consist of NCERT as well as their coaching material. They should solve each question very carefully from it and should mark questions for revision. From secondary sources, students should study and practice selectively as per their requirement.
3) Testing: Students should undergo regular tests (one in three weeks ideal) to be in sync with the pattern of JEE. In last one month, students should solve at least 10 full syllabus papers.
4) Revision: Before every test, students should prepare for syllabus of the test paper by revising. This is the best revision strategy as it let students revise topics multiple times.
For short-term strategy, I consider time duration of 45 days before JEE examination. By this time, you should have a list of strong and weak topics for you to revise.
Pick one weak topic every day and try to solve easy questions so that any easy questions from weak topic should not be left.
For strong topics, revision from self notes should be followed by solving some new questions in time bound manner.
Aim of a student should be to do have a preparation which can help him score good in all his weak and strong topics.
Questions 2: Importance of the study plan for the preparation of JEE exam.
Answer:
It is very much important because of the simple fact that smart work is better than hard work.
Many students are putting in 12 hours a day without any tangible results because of lack of study plan.
For every student, there should be definite targets for the day (micro planning) and planning related to long term targets (macro planning).
A student should measure guilty days every 10 days. A guilty day is defined as a day in which a student is not able to achieve his target which he sets in the morning. In every 10 days, there should be less than 3 guilty days.
The planned study should be in accordance with long term and short term strategy explained above.
Question 3: How often mock test should be attempted for the preparation of JEE exam?
Answer:
Mock test frequency is a tricky question. If a student is into more than one year of preparation, he should start with once in three weeks frequency with alternate part syllabus and cumulative syllabus papers.
At the last time, a student should focus on giving at least 10 papers of full syllabus in exactly same time slot as the main examination in 45 days.
Questions 4: Role of coaching centre for the preparation of JEE exam?
Answer:
In my opinion, coaching has a large role to play. The main benefit of studying in a coaching is that they provide a student a path from which he should not deviate.
There are many students who are not that much self-motivated to see their way through to IIT preparation. For them, coaching is a boon.
That being said, if a student is highly motivated and has guidance from possibly his seniors, he may prepare on his own or through any online learning platforms.
Question 5: List of important books for the Preparation of JEE exam?
Answer:
For me most important sources are NCERT and material of any one coaching institute. Other than that, following are some books which may be handy for students:
1) Maths: A Das Gupta, Cengage (For lot of practice), SL Loney (Trigonometry), GN Berman (Calculus) and Hall n Knight (Higher Algebra)
2) Physics: HC Verma and Resnick Halliday
3) Chemistry: JD Lee, OP Tondon, RC Mukherjee, Mcmurry and Morrison Boyed
Question 6: What should be studied in the last month before the exam?
Answer:
As answered in the short term strategy, nothing new should be studied. Mainly, last month is for revision of strong and weak topics.
Question 7: Is there any message that you’d like to give to the users of Jagranjosh.com?
Answer:
